Date Issued: 15 December 2004

Mountain Cedar Location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional Weather: Wed and Thurs, Dec 15 and 16. TX/OK: Sunny to partly cloudy skies and southerly winds will help warm temperatures from yesterday. Temperatures throughout the region will range from the upper 40s in the north to the mid-50s in the south with night time lows near freezing. Clouds will increase tonight and remain across the region tomorrow but chances of rain are low. Temperatures tomorrow will be a few degrees warmer than today but winds will shift back to the north during the day. Skies will clear on Friday with temperatures remaining in the 50s.

Trajectory weather: Air mass trajectories from the eastern side of the plateau move to the north and then turn east across Oklahoma into Arkansas. Trajectories from the western side of the plateau move to the north and then curve back to the south late tonight. Temperatures at the source were low this morning hindering pollen release. Release is more likely this afternoon with warming temperatures and good conditions for transport. Trajectories tomorrow show movement to the south as winds from the north return to the area.

OUTLOOK: *** Moderate to High Threat *** Good conditions for pollen release this afternoon.  Sunny dry conditions will occur today, but cold morning temperatures and early seasonal time should reduce amount of pollen release making for mixed to good conditions for release. Cold temperatures occur again tonight and a slight warming is expected tomorrow. Overall threat is moderate to high for the Edwards Plateau area and moderate downwind.

Trajectory Start (s) (shown by * on map): Austin, TX; Junction, TX; San Angelo, TX.
