Date Issued: 20 Dec 2004

Mountain Cedar Location(s): Arbuckle Mountains, OK

Regional Weather: Monday and Tuesday, Dec 20 and 21. TX/OK: Temperatures through the region will warm rapidly on Monday with strong winds from the southwest. Skies will be clear to partly cloudy with highs around 60 in Oklahoma and the upper 60s to low 70s in Texas. Night time lows on Monday will be in the 30s and 40s. Tuesday will see an arctic cold front moving into the area dropping temperatures to the upper 40s in Oklahoma with cloudy skies and winds from the northeast. Texas will remain warm and partly cloudy with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The cold front will begin to move into Texas late Tuesday. Wednesday will see temperatures in the low 30s in Oklahoma and the 40s in Texas with a chance of precipitation.

Trajectory weather: The air mass trajectories move from the Arbuckle Mountains to the northeast over eastern Oklahoma on strong southerly winds. The trajectories show good characteristics for entrainment and travel of pollen downwind. Sunny skies will prevail across the region with mild temperatures and strong gusty winds will occur at the source area today. Trajectories tomorrow from the Arbuckles show movement to the southwest over Texas as the winds shift ahead of the arctic front that will move into the area Tuesday evening.

OUTLOOK: *** Moderate Threat today *** good conditions for pollen release. Sunny dry conditions will occur today with warm temperatures. Ideal coniditons for pollen release; however, we have not seen significant pollen release from the Arbuckles yet. As a result we may still be early in the season for the Arbuckles. Temperatures will be about 10 degrees colder tomorrow but still in the favorable range with the pollen moving south on strong northerly winds.

Trajectory Start (s) (shown by black star on map): Sulfur, OK.
