Mountain Cedar Pollen Forecast

Date Issued: 21 December 1998

Mountain Cedar location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional weather: Monday, December 21 - TX/OK: Cold front with polar air behind it stalled over OK during the weekend. The next front coming down the plains has Arctic air behind it and will push through the region. Highs today in northern OK won't get out of the teens....while the southern 2/3 of Texas will start out balmy with many areas reaching the 70's. However.....temperatures in TX will tumble down fast during the afternoon.Chance of light rain, freezing rain, freezing drizzle, or sleet today depending on your location.....with a chance of some sort of freezing precipitation most areas tonight and Tuesday except for the far west, deep south, and coastal locations. Temperatures will drop into the single digits north and 20's and 30's south tonight.......and won't rise much for Tuesday's highs.

Trajectory weather: Austin: Cloudy with a slight chance of rain or drizzle today, high in the 70's. Colder with rain likely tonight, ending by daybreak. Lows in the 30's. Cloudy with a high in the low 50's on Tuesday. Junction/San Angelo: Cloudy with a chance of light rain or drizzle, high in the 60's. Turning markedly colder during the afternoon and evening. Chance of light freezing drizzle or flurries hill country tonight, lows in the upper 10's and low 20's. Cloudy and cold with a chance of freezing rain or flurries on Tuesday, high in the upper 20's.

Trajectory confidence: High

OUTLOOK: *** Low Threat *** Mixed conditions for pollen release today but the tendency is towards the unfavorable side. Temperatures are well into the favorable range and winds are moderate to strong. Humidities are remaining consistently high during the midday hours, though, and won't likely fall. Best possibility of release is from the Austin (i.e., eastern) end of the Plateau but should be comparably light. Rain will probably wash out any airborne pollen as it moves through northeast Texas tonight. However....residents of Waco...Tyler...or Dallas may have some airborne pollen moving through their area this afternoon and evening. Any pollen released from other areas of the plateau will tend to remain in those areas today and tonight, and will likely be washed out during that time. TK
