Mountain Cedar Pollen Forecast

Date Issued: 23 December 1999

Mountain Cedar location(s): Arbuckle Mountains, OK

Regional weather: Thursday, December 23 - TX/OK: Surface high pressure will continue to govern the weather in the region. Interaction of the High with an upper-level Low in Old Mexico is bringing in clouds and moisture to parts of southern and western Texas. Slight chance of rain there today and Friday. Otherwise, clear to partly cloudy skies and slowly-moderating temperatures are the rule. Highs today in the 40's and 50's. Lows tonight mostly 20's and 30's. Highs Friday mostly in the 50's with some 40's northern sections.

Trajectory weather: Mostly sunny today, high in the mid-50's. Fair tonight, low in the mid-30's. Partly cloudy Friday, high around 60.

Trajectory confidence: High

OUTLOOK: *** Mild Threat *** Mixed conditions for pollen release. Available observations indicate variations of temperature and moisture in southern Oklahoma this morning. Data from nearest the source region shows temperatures in the upper 40's and humidities in the low 60's at Noon local time. The humidity has fallen slowly during the morning to reach that point. Observations from surrounding counties indicate drier air with humidities in the tolerance range.... but cooler temperatures, just mid-40's at Noon. As mentioned Wednesday, Recent reports from the Arbuckle Mountains indicate that many cones are now mature. Forecast highs in the Arbuckles are for mid-50's, so some pollen release may occur during the afternoon hours. Ill effects from today's release event should be few, with residents of far southern and southeastern Oklahoma most likely to be affected. TK

Trajectory Start(s) (shown by the * on map): Sulfur, Oklahoma
