Schappi et al. 1999b. Birch
pollen allergens were present on respirable starch
granules found in the air, especially during periods of light rain. Because the
allergen occurs on respirable particles, the authors
suggest these particles could cause allergic asthma. They recommend that
birch-sensitive patients should remain indoors during light rain.
