Birch pollen grains rupture in moist
environments to form respirable-sized cytoplasmic particles that contain Bet v 1 allergens. This
rupture can occur in open anthers during high humidity, fog, dew, and rain.
Subsequent drying winds disperse these allergens into the atmosphere.
