Mountain Cedar Pollen Forecast

Date Issued: 2 January 2000

Mountain Cedar location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional weather: Sunday, January 2 - TX/OK: Mostly cloudy in eastern areas today with clear to partly cloudy skies otherwise. Low pressure is developing in OK today and tonight with an associated cold front to the south. Some rain expected for eastern sections today with coverage spreading tonight into Monday as the Low develops, mostly for northern and eastern areas with most of the west and south remaining dry. Highs in the 50's to 70's today. Lows in the 20's northwest to 50's southeast. Highs Monday from the 40's to 60's with a few 70's south TX.

Trajectory weather: Variably cloudy today, slight chance of showers east, decreasing cloudiness this afternoon. Highs around 70. Becoming mostly cloudy tonight with a chance of showers west, spreading east later. Lows in the upper 40's to low 50's. Rain likely Monday, possibly mixed with or changing to snow for MO/IL. HIghs in the upper 30's MO/IL to 50's for AR.

Trajectory confidence: High

OUTLOOK: *** Low to Moderate Threat *** Mixed conditions for pollen release across the Plateau, ranging from favorable west to mostly unfavorable central and east. Temperatures are favorable region-wide. Moisture conditions vary from dry in the western areas to humid central and eastern sections. Any pollen release will come from the western sections. Washout of airborne pollen will likely occur after midnight for all trajectories. Persons living in central and northern TX may feel some ill effects from today's release. *** Recent reports from the Edward's Plateau are mixed with regard to pollen availability. According to Dr. Jack Kent in Austin, there is little to no pollen on the trees in the area. Yet, he reports allergic symptoms, indicating some pollen is in the air. Information from the Junction area describes pollen levels that aren't high at this time and have yet to be high this season. Given the past and continuing dry weather, it appears that pollen production is, in general, comparatively less this year and is likely spotty in nature. We will continue to update you on the situation as we receive more information. *** TK
