Mountain Cedar Pollen Forecast

Date Issued: 5 January 2000

Mountain Cedar location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional weather: Wednesday, January 5 - TX/OK: Cold front approaching from the Rockies will move through the region during the next two days. Only a few clouds and no precipitation expected with its passage. Moisture will increase in southern and southeastern TX beginning tonight. Clouds and a chance of showers for some areas on Thursday. Otherwise, sunny/clear skies today and Thursday. Windy ahead of the front for some sections today. Highs from the 40's to 60's both days but a bit cooler on Thursday behind the front. Lows ranging from the 20's to 40's.

Trajectory weather: Mostly sunny today, high around 60. Partly cloudy tonight, lows in the 20's OK, low 30's north TX. On Thursday..... partly cloudy central TX, mostly cloudy AR. Highs in the low 50's both locales.

Trajectory confidence: High

OUTLOOK: *** Mild to Moderate Threat *** Mixed but mostly favorable conditions for pollen release. Humidities are favorable; temperatures should be in the favorable ranges by midday. Breezy to windy conditions, especially western sections of the Plateau. Some release expected. Persons living in western areas of north Texas appear to be likeliest to feel any ill effects. Residents of eastern north Texas and southeast OK may also feel some ill effects. *** Recent reports from the Edward's Plateau are mixed with regard to pollen availability. According to Dr. Jack Kent in Austin, there is little to no pollen on the trees in the area. Yet, he reports allergic symptoms, indicating some pollen is in the air. Information from Bill Durbon in Junction describes relatively low pollen levels at this time, with no profuse pollination to report. Trees have appeared ready to pop for several weeks but have yet to do so. *** Given the past and continuing dry weather, it appears that pollen production is, in general, comparatively less this year and likely spotty in nature. We will continue to update you on the situation as we receive more information. *** TK
