Mountain Cedar Pollen Forecast

Date Issued: 6 January 2000

Mountain Cedar location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional weather: Thursday, January 6 - TX/OK: Cold front moving through the region. Moisture is being pumped into the region from the Gulf of Mexico. Clouds in eastern sections ahead of the front with a little light rain in parts of southeast TX. Clear to partly cloudy elsewhere (behind the front). The front will move through the region and stall along the Gulf coast. The increasing moisture feed will continue into Friday with the coverage of clouds and rain also increasing.... mostly for southern TX. Highs today in the 40's north to 60's south. Lows tonight ranging from the 20's to 40's. Highs Friday mostly in the 50's.

Trajectory weather: Fair today, highs near 60. Clear to partly cloudy tonight, lows 25-30. Sunny on Friday, highs 50-55.

Trajectory confidence: High

OUTLOOK: *** Low Threat central and east; Mild Threat west *** Mixed, mostly unfavorable conditions for pollen release. Temperatures will be in the favorable range this afternoon. However, humidities vary considerably over the Plateau..... far out the favorable range east.... slowly decreasing but still unfavorable central.... and favorable west. Little to no release expected for most of the Plateau. Some release is possible from the northwest sections. Persons living in west-central TX may feel some ill effects from today's release. *** Recent reports from the Edward's Plateau are mixed with regard to pollen availability. According to Dr. Jack Kent in Austin, there is little to no pollen on the trees in the area. Yet, he reports allergic symptoms, indicating some pollen is in the air. Information from Bill Durbon in Junction describes relatively low pollen levels at this time, with no profuse pollination to report. Trees have appeared ready to pop for several weeks but have yet to do so. *** Given the past and continuing dry weather, it appears that pollen production is, in general, comparatively less this year and likely spotty in nature. We will continue to update you on the situation as we receive more information. *** TK
