Mountain Cedar Pollen Forecast

Date Issued: 7 January 2000

Mountain Cedar location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional weather: Friday, January 7 - TX/OK: Moisture streaming in from the Gulf of Mexico. Cloudy for TX, mostly sunny elsewhere. Rain in southern TX early today, spreading north and west during the day, moving north and east tonight and Saturday. Rain ending from west to east Saturday and Saturday night. Highs today and Saturday in the 40's and 50's. Lows ranging from the upper 20's northwest to low 50's southeast.

Trajectory weather: Austin: Rain today and tonight, high in the 50's, low in the low 40's. Chance of rain Saturday, high in the upper 40's. Junction / San Angelo: Mostly cloudy with a chance of light rain or showers through the forecast. Rain likely at times. High today in the 50's, low 60's Saturday. Low tonight 40's southern Plateau, 50's northeast Mexico.

Trajectory confidence: High

OUTLOOK: *** Low Threat *** Unfavorable conditions for pollen release today and Saturday. Temperatures may reach the favorable range..... but moisture levels are far too high for pollen release. Similar or worse conditions expected Saturday. Rain is either forecasted or already occurring over much of the Plateau today and Saturday. Very little to no release expected either day. *** Recent reports from the Edward's Plateau are mixed with regard to pollen availability. According to Dr. Jack Kent in Austin, there is little to no pollen on the trees in the area. Yet, he reports allergic symptoms, indicating some pollen is in the air. Information from Bill Durbon in Junction describes relatively low pollen levels at this time, with no profuse pollination to report. Trees have appeared ready to pop for several weeks but have yet to do so. *** Given the past and continuing dry weather, it appears that pollen production is, in general, comparatively less this year and likely spotty in nature. We will continue to update you on the situation as we receive more information. *** TK
