Date Issued: 24 January 2003

Mountain Cedar Location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional Weather: Friday, January 24 TX/OK/AR:  Conditions across the forecast region will be once again influenced by the current push of arctic air coming from the north.  Clouds have been building over western Texas and will result in partly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions across the region today with cold temperatures as far south as San Antonio, Texas.  Todays highs will be in the low 30s around Dallas to the mid 40s on the southern edge of the Edwards Plateau.  Winds will be from the south to southeast and light and moderate resulting in colder wind chill conditions. Overnight temperatures will moderate from last nights conditions to just around freezing in the north and the upper 30s to the south.  A warm up will begin for Saturday, with temperatures reaching the low 50s and even warmer weather expected on Sunday.  To the north in Oklahoma high temperatures today will just get above freezing with partly to mostly cloudy conditions and moderate winds from the south.  Temperatures overnight will dip into the upper 20s then warm to the upper 30s and low 40s on Saturday.

Trajectory weather: There are no air mass trajectories today because of a computer problem.  However, temperatures across the region will remain cold for pollen release with highs expected only in the 40s today.  Winds will be light to moderate from the south to southeast.  Skies will be cloudy across the region but humidity will only be in the moderate range.  Overnight temperatures will be in the thirties and mostly above freezing across the region.  Warmer conditions will occur on Saturday with temperatures in the 50s but humidity will be high and cloudy conditions are expected.  Moderate winds from the south are expected.

OUTLOOK: *** Low Threat today ***Unfavorable Conditions for Pollen Release Today.   Partly cloudy skies today with cold temperatures across the region will result in unfavorable conditions for pollen release today.  High temperatures will be in the mid to low 40s across the region.   In addition, we are nearing the end of the pollination season and the amount of pollen to be dispersed is declining.  Recent good conditions did not lead to significant amounts of pollen being reported which leads us to believe that the amount of unopened cones in the populations is declining.  There were no trajectories today because of a computer problem, however poor conditions at the site of release result in a forecast for a low threat to downwind communities today.   Conditions are expected to improve tomorrow with warmer temperatures but much higher humidity.

Trajectories were unavailable this morning from the NOAA web site.
