Date Issued: 12 January 2004

Mountain Cedar Location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas

Regional Weather: Monday and Tuesday, Jan 12 and 13. TX/OK: Mild weather continues across the region for the next few days. Daytime highs will be in the upper 50s and 60s and night-time lows will be in the upper 30s to upper 40s. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy as a weak low pressure system moves through the area bringing some chances of precipitation, especially in central Texas. Winds will be light and variable.

Trajectory weather: The air mass trajectories from eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau move to the north and then east over eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas, whereas those from the western side of the Edwards Plateau move north and then circle around north Texas. Some of the trajectories are not conducive to entrainment and downwind travel. Conditions at the sources are mixed. Temperatures across the region will be quite mild with highs in the mid 60s, but some areas will see the chance of precipitation on both Monday and Tuesday. Morning for will also occur in some areas. Trajectories tomorrow generally show movement to the east across central Texas.

OUTLOOK: *** Moderate to High Threat *** Mixed conditions for pollen release. Temperatures are mild, but winds are light and humidity is high with fog and light rain in some areas. As a result, some areas across the Plateau will have favorable conditions for pollen release, while in other areas the morning fog and rain reduce the possibility of significant pollen release. Since the trees are still in their peak release period significant amounts of pollen release might be expected in drier areas across the plateau. Conditions tomorrow are likely to be a repeat of today. Overall, we are suggesting a moderate risk with some areas of higher exposure possible.

Trajectory Start (s) (shown by * on map): Austin, TX; Junction, TX; San Angelo, TX.
