Date Issued: 23 January 2004

Mountain Cedar Location(s): Arbuckle Mountains, OK

Regional Weather: Friday through Sunday, Jan 23-25. TX/OK: Mild temperatures through the weekend with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and nightime lows in the 40s and 50s. On Friday clouds will be increasing from the south. An increasing chance of showers and thuderstorms (some strong) moving north through the region starting Friday afternoon and continuing through Saturday night. Much of the region will see showers on Saturday. Moderate to gusty southerly, southwesterly winds throughout the weekend with wind speeds increasing on Sunday ahead of the next frontal system to enter the area late on Sunday.

Trajectory weather: Friday, the air mass trajectories move from the Arbuckle Mountains to the northeast over eastern Oklahoma and then east over southern Missouri. At the source conditions will be mild with afternoon highs near 60 and sunny skies. Trajectories on Saturday will move to the north with possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the area. Temperatures will continue mild in the area. Sunday will see clear to partly cloudy skies and trajectories moving to the northeast.

OUTLOOK: *** Moderate to High Threat *** Favorable conditions for pollen release on Friday and Sunday, mixed conditions on Saturday. Sunny dry conditions will occur today with temperatures in the low 60s at the source. We are getting near the end of the peak release season so less pollen may be available for dispersal. Nevertheless conditions are good and significant amounts may still be dispersed. Chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday will likely reduce the risk of pollen release and dispersal for Saturday. Clearing skies and strong winds on Sunday will raise the exposure risk back up for downwind communities.

Trajectory Start (s) (shown by black star on map): Sulfur, OK.
