Date Issued: 23 January 2004
Mountain Cedar Location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas
Regional Weather: Friday through Sunday, Jan 23-25. TX/OK: Mild temperatures through the weekend with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and nightime lows in the 40s and 50s. On Friday clouds will be increasing from the south. An increasing chance of showers and thuderstorms (some strong) moving north through the region starting Friday afternoon and continuing through Saturday night. Much of the region will see showers on Saturday. Moderate to gusty southerly, southwesterly winds throughout the weekend with wind speeds increasing on Sunday ahead of the next frontal system to enter the area late on Sunday.
Trajectory weather: The air mass trajectories from the Edwards Plateau move to the north, northeast over north central Texas and Oklahoma. Across the Plateau temperatures are mild but areas of rain are occurring this morning. Trajectories on Saturday move to the northeast with possibility of showers and thunderstorms throughout the area. Temperatures will continue mild. Sunday will see clear to partly cloudy skies and trajectories moving to the east, northeast
OUTLOOK: *** Moderate to High Threat *** Favorable
to mixed conditions for pollen release. Mixed conditions across the Plateau results in moderate to
high exposure risks for the weekend. We are getting near the end of the peak release season so less pollen may
be available for dispersal. Nevertheless conditions in some areas are favorable for dispersal and significant amounts
may still be released. Chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday will likely reduce the risk of
pollen release and dispersal in other areas. Clearing skies and strong winds on Sunday will raise the exposure
risk back up for downwind communities.
Trajectory Start (s) (shown by *
on map): Austin, TX; Junction, TX; San Angelo, TX.
