Date Issued: 5 January 2004
Mountain Cedar Location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas
Regional Weather: Monday and Tuesday, Jan 5 and 6. TX/OK: A cold air mass will remain in place over the region for the next couple of days. Skies will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. Daytime highs in Oklahoma will be in the 30s with night-time lows in the teens to 20s. In Texas highs will range from the 40s to 50s with night-time lows in the 30s. Winds will be from the north on Monday at 10-15 mph gradually shifting to the northeast and then the east late on Tuesday afternoon and finally to the southeast in most areas by Wednesday morning.
Trajectory weather: The air mass trajectories from Texas move to the southwest this afternoon then turn northeast again tomorrow. Conditions at the sources will be cold today with overcast skies and northeast winds. Nighttime temperatures will be low and temperatures will remain low tomorrow. Trajectories tomorrow start out moving west then turn northeast over west Texas and Oklahoma. The trees are at the peak of the pollen release season therefore some pollen may be released but the cold temperatures should discourage it today and tomorrow.
OUTLOOK: *** Low to Moderate Threat ***
Mixed conditions for pollen release. Skies are cloudy with dry, windy conditions but cold temperatures
coupled with moderate to strong winds across the region result in mixed conditions for
pollen release today. Since the trees are at their peak release period significant amounts of pollen release might
be expected in sheltered areas where localized temperatures may be greater. However, overall the cold blustery
conditions should restrain significant release. Tomorrow should see similar conditions with temperatures barely
reaching the tolerable range for pollen release.
Trajectory Start (s) (shown by *
on map): Austin, TX; Junction, TX; San Angelo, TX.
