Date Issued: 21 January 2009
Mountain Cedar Location(s): Edwards Plateau, Texas
Regional Weather: Wednesday, January 21 – TX/OK:
Across the region warm sunny conditions will remain again today with temperatures warming from yesterday. In Oklahoma,
temperatures will be in the 60s. Winds will be moderate and from the west during the day, then shifting to light
and variable overnight. Tonight temperatures will be in the mid 30s with clear skies then mostly sunny again tomorrow
with temperatures in the 70s. Winds will be moderate and from the south. Tomorrow night skies will become partly
cloudy with temperatures in the lower 40s and winds shifting from the east at about 10. In Texas today’s temperatures
will warm into the mid 70s across the region. Winds will be from the southwest and will be light in the morning,
gaining to moderate this afternoon. Tonight temperatures will range from the upper 30s to the lower 40s. Winds
will be light to moderate and from the south and southwest. Thursday skies will remain clear and sunny in the
surrounding communities, with partly cloudy skies over the Plateau. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper
70s and moderate winds from the south and southwest.
Trajectory weather: Air mass trajectories from the Edwards Plateau move to the east, northeast. Clear skies
today, with warm conditions will occur across the central Texas region. Winds will be moderate starting from the
southwest, shifting more towards the south overnight. Conditions in the tree population on the Edwards Plateau
will be good for pollen release today and tomorrow because of warm sunny conditions and moderate winds. Tomorrow,
similar conditions will occur throughout the region. Stable atmospheric conditions will result in moderate to
good conditions for travel of pollen entrained in the atmosphere.
OUTLOOK: *** High Threat*** favorable conditions for pollen release along with moderate
to good conditions for entrainment and transport. Warm conditions with moderate winds will present favorable
conditions for pollen release, and good conditions for entrainment and travel. Entrained pollen will flow over
northeastern and eastern Texas during the next 24 hours. Tomorrow, moderate winds, sunny skies and dry conditions
will maintain the chance of pollen dispersal and movement tomorrow as well. Very high levels of pollen have been
recorded over the past few days. Very high concentrations are expected to continue across the region today and
tomorrow.
