Juniperus pinchotii

Currently we are studying the pollination ecology of Juniperus pinchotii (redberry juniper/Pinchot's juniper) trees in order to provide more accurate pollen forecasts. We are trying to determine the status of pollen cone development throughout the range of redberry juniper trees and are looking for volunteers who will help by checking the trees in your local area. The trees begin releasing pollen in mid to late September and continue releasing pollen through November. The populations of redberry juniper are centered in west Texas and southwest Oklahoma. We are looking for volunteers in these areas to check the trees weekly.

The National Phenology Network (NPN) is working with us in this part of the study. If you would be interested in helping with our current research project, please click on this link to the
NPN. If you have any questions, contact Estelle Levetin at pollen@utulsa.edu.
